Vedanta Group, through its subsidiary Hindustan Zinc Limited, has entered into an agreement with Suzlon Group to establish and maintain 150 megawatts (MW) of wind power projects across India. This agreement is valued at approximately ₹865 crore (around USD 191 million) and targets multiple states including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu. The project will be executed in two phases, with the initial 50 MW expected to be operational by March 2011, followed by the remaining 100 MW to be completed progressively by September 2011.
This venture highlights Vedanta's commitment to diversifying its energy portfolio and moving towards sustainable energy solutions. Previously, the company had approximately 125 MW of wind energy capacity in Gujarat and Karnataka, which will increase to 275 MW upon completion of the new projects.
