The Mosaic Company (NYSE: MOS), a leading global producer and marketer of concentrated phosphate and potash nutrients for crops, has finalized the sale of Mosaic Potássio Mineração Ltda. (MPM). This entity operates the Taquari-Vassouras Mineral Complex located in Rosário do Catete, Sergipe, Brazil. The acquisition by VL Mineração Ltda. signifies a strategic move by Mosaic to enhance focus on its core activities whilst reallocating capital towards areas where it holds a competitive advantage.
VL Mineração will take over the mining and potassium processing operations, alongside maintenance responsibilities and other obligations. In exchange, Mosaic will receive $27 million in cash, structured as $12 million at closing, $10 million one year post-closing, and up to $5 million in contingent payments over six years. Additionally, VL Mineração will assume approximately $22 million in asset retirement obligations (ARO).
