With a significant portion of the population lacking access to reliable electricity, the government has prioritized hydropower development as a means to enhance energy security and promote economic growth. The sector is characterized by a mix of large-scale projects and smaller, community-based initiatives, reflecting a growing interest in sustainable energy solutions.
In recent years, the Nepalese government has implemented various policies to attract foreign investment and encourage private sector participation in hydropower projects. This has resulted in an influx of capital and expertise, facilitating the development of new projects and the expansion of existing ones. The Lower Solu Hydroelectric Project, operated by SHL, exemplifies this trend, showcasing the potential for hydropower to contribute to the national grid while also addressing local energy needs.
