Tata Steel Nederland (TSN) has successfully signed an agreement to acquire Vattenfall's power plants located in the IJmond region. As part of this transaction, all employees working at the Vattenfall plants in IJmond will transition to TSN's employment. The formal transfer of ownership of the power plants is scheduled to occur on January 1, 2026, although financial details regarding the deal have not been disclosed.
Hans van den Berg, the CEO of Tata Steel Nederland, emphasized the long-standing relationship between Vattenfall's energy plants and TSN's steel production processes, stating that the plants have efficiently operated for nearly a century using waste gases from steel manufacturing. The transfer of ownership is a critical step in enabling TSN to manage the complex transition towards environmentally friendly steel production as the current contract concludes at the end of 2025.
