Information on the target
The Stadtwerke München (SWM) is advancing its commitment to renewable energy by establishing a new wind farm in the northeastern part of the Weisinger Forest, near Dillingen an der Donau, within the municipality of Holzheim. This wind farm will consist of four wind turbines, each approximately 260 meters tall, with a total installed capacity of 28 megawatts. Once operational, the facility is expected to generate renewable electricity sufficient to power around 22,000 households, based on an average consumption of 2,500 kWh per household per year.
The "Windpark Holzheim" will be operated as part of a municipal partnership, with SWM holding a 74% stake in the project company, while the municipality of Holzheim will own 25%. Additionally, the local citizens' energy cooperative, Windkraft Dillinger Land, will hold a 1% stake. Financial participation options for local residents are currently being developed. The project has been supported by the developer GP Joule for several years and is now under the majority ownership of SWM, marking the commencement of construction, which began on October 1, 2026.
Industry overview in the target’s specific country
Germany is a leader in the Wind Systems & Equipment industry, driven by its ambitious energy transition goals, known as the Energiewende. This initiative aims to significantly increase the share of renewable energy in the country's energy mix, with wind energy playing a pivotal role. As of 2023, Germany ranks among the top countries globally in installed wind capacity, with a robust infrastructure supporting both onshore and offshore wind projects.
The German government has implemented various policies and incentives to promote the development of wind energy, including feed-in tariffs and auction systems that encourage investment in renewable technologies. This supportive regulatory framework has led to a surge in wind farm installations across the country, contributing to job creation and technological advancements within the sector.
In recent years, the Wind Systems & Equipment industry in Germany has also seen significant advancements in turbine technology, resulting in larger, more efficient turbines that can generate more power at lower costs. This technological evolution is crucial for meeting the increasing energy demands of the population and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Furthermore, the integration of wind energy into the national grid has improved, enhancing the overall stability and reliability of energy supply.
The growing emphasis on sustainability and climate change mitigation has further fueled investments in wind energy projects. As cities and municipalities, like Holzheim, engage in local renewabl…
