Sports Direct International plc has announced its agreement to acquire a 60% equity stake in Sportland International Group AS (SIG), the foremost sporting goods retailer in the Baltic region. Founded in 1995 by Are Altraja and Anti Kalle, SIG has evolved from a wholesaler to the leading retailer and distributor of sporting goods in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The company's portfolio includes various retail chains, such as Sportland, Sportland Outlet, Timberland, O’Neill, Nike, and Nike Outlet.
As of the end of December 2012, SIG reported revenues of €61.6 million, operating 80 stores with a net sales area totaling approximately 39,000 square meters. The Group also encompasses AS Jalajälg, recognized as the official wholesale distributor for Nike products in the Baltics, reinforcing its significant position in the market. The completion of this transaction is contingent on clearance from local competition authorities and is anticipated to finalize by June 30, 2013.
