(headquartered in Bunkyo, Tokyo, CEO: Kosuke Ueda; hereinafter referred to as Tohoku IPC) has announced a capital investment of 150 million yen into Orbital Lasers Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, CEO: Tadatoshi Fukushima; hereinafter referred to as Orbital Lasers), a company specializing in innovative space laser technology. This investment is part of the Open Innovation Promotion No. 1 Investment Limited Liability Partnership (hereinafter referred to as AOI No. 1 Fund), managed by Tohoku IPC.
Orbital Lasers, founded in January 2024, has emerged as a spinoff from Sky Perfect JSAT Corporation (headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, CEO: Eiichi Yonekura). The company focuses on developing advanced satellite laser technology, particularly for space debris removal and satellite lidar projects. They have collaborated with leading institutions such as RIKEN, Nagoya University, and Kyushu University, culminating in the development of a compact space laser capable of generating peak powers more than ten times greater than existing technologies.
