Information on the target
Natland Investment Group has acquired a one-third stake in Mincom, a.s., which now owns and operates Příbramská teplárenská, a.s. This acquisition marks a significant milestone as Mincom completed the purchase of 100% of the shares of Příbramská teplárenská, a.s. from the insolvency administrator on June 31, 2018, alongside the thermal distribution infrastructure from the city of Příbram. This transaction effectively resolves nearly two decades of uncertainty regarding the future of this enterprise.
The complexity of the transaction involved two sellers: the city of Příbram and the creditors of the bankrupt Příbramská teplárenská. Natland acted on the buyer's side through Mincom, a special purpose vehicle from the EnergoFuture group, providing financing for the transaction and securing a 33% investment stake. Příbramská teplárna has also initiated the adaptation of part of its production capacity from coal combustion to the utilization of wood chips, with an investment amounting to approximately CZK 100 million.
Industry overview in the target’s specific country
The Biomass & Waste to Energy Electric Utilities industry in the Czech Republic has been gaining traction as a sustainable energy solution, driven by increasing environmental regulations and a national commitment to reducing carbon emissions. The Czech government has set ambitious targets for renewable energy, aiming for a significant share of energy production to come from renewable sources, including biomass. This shift is supported by various subsidies and incentives aimed at promoting the use of renewable energy technologies.
In recent years, the biomass sector has seen substantial investments, particularly in the conversion of existing coal-fired power plants to biomass. This transition not only helps in reducing greenhouse gas emissions but also enhances energy security by diversifying the energy mix. The Czech Republic has a robust supply of biomass resources, including agricultural residues and wood waste, which are increasingly being utilized for energy production.
Moreover, the waste-to-energy segment is also expanding, with several facilities being developed to convert municipal waste into energy. This not only addresses waste management challenges but also contributes to the energy supply. The integration of advanced technologies in waste processing and energy generation is expected to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs, making the sector more attractive to investors.
As the Czech Republic continues to align its energy policies with European Union directives, the Biomass & Waste to Energy Electric Utilities industry is poised for growth. The combi…
