The Chaglla hydroelectric plant, located in Huánuco, Peru, has undergone significant ownership changes over the past seven years. Originally owned by Odebrecht, the asset was acquired for approximately US$ 1.4 billion by the Huallaga Holding Company Limited consortium, which is led by China Three Gorges Corp. (CTG) and includes Hubei Energy Group, ACE Investment Fund II LP, and CNIC Corporation. The plant has a generation capacity of 456 megawatts (MW), making it the third-largest hydroelectric facility in the country.
The consortium operates through its local subsidiary, Empresa de Generación Huallaga (EGHSA), which is responsible for the management and operation of the Chaglla plant. Recently, EGHSA has submitted a Technical Sustainability Report (ITS) to the National Service of Environmental Certification for Sustainable Investments (Senace) to implement a telecommunications tower at the hydroelectric facility. This initiative aims to address cellular signal failures and interruptions affecting the operational area.
