A partnership exceeding $20 million has led to the successful launch of Biomont Énergie's biogas cogeneration plant in Montreal, which significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions while promoting sustainable energy practices.

Target Information

Biomont Énergie, a limited partnership initiated through a financial collaboration exceeding $20 million between Fondaction, Éolectric, and Valeco, has successfully launched its biogas cogeneration plant in Montreal. This facility has a capacity of 4.8 megawatts, which is sufficient to supply electricity to over 1,900 households utilizing biogas captured from the Saint-Michel environmental complex. The biogas originates from an old landfill site that was formerly known as the Miron quarry in the City of Montreal. The generated electricity will be sold to Hydro-Québec.

Additionally, the plant will utilize a heat recovery system from its engine to provide hot water for heating the headquarters of Cirque du Soleil and the nearby Tohu. This initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions significantly, with an annual decrease of more than 237,000 tons, which would have otherwise released from the decomposition of waste at the former landfill site.
