Edison Next is expanding its biomass heating network in Cesano Boscone from 2 km to 14.5 km, aiming to significantly reduce CO2 emissions and improve energy accessibility for approximately 7,000 households.
Information on the Target
Edison Next, a subsidiary of the Edison Group, has recently commenced the expansion of its biomass heating plant in Cesano Boscone. Following the acquisition of Prometheus Energia in October 2023, Edison Next is undertaking this project to significantly increase the reach of its heating service. The existing plant, which generates both electricity and heat through a cogeneration system with a capacity of 1 MW electrical and approximately 13 MW thermal, uses virgin biomass sourced from local supply chains. This initiative is set to enhance the heating distribution network dramatically, benefiting the local community.
The current expansion aims to extend the heating network from 2 km to an impressive 14.5 km, allowing the company to serve around 7,000 families, an increase from the current 1,600 households. This upgrade is anticipated to produce substantial environmental benefits by reducing CO2 emissions by nearly 16,000 tons annually, promoting renewable energy utilization, and fostering local resource optimization.
