Information on the target
DOF Group ASA (“DOF”) has announced its agreement to purchase two high-end anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels, Aurora Saltfjord and Aurora Sandefjord. Built in 2011, these vessels are equipped with a remarkable bollard pull of nearly 400 metric tonnes, positioning them among the most powerful AHTS vessels in the global market. This acquisition is part of DOF's strategic initiative to enhance its AHTS fleet by integrating advanced capabilities that align with the company's operational goals.
As part of this transaction, DOF has also agreed to divest the AHTS vessel Skandi Laser, which was built in 2010 and has a bollard pull of 252 metric tonnes. The Skandi Laser has recently been engaged in a subsea project in West Africa and has been active in the spot market. The net investment for the acquisition of the two vessels is approximately USD 100 million, with around USD 30 million expected to be financed through cash and the remainder through available debt funding.
Industry overview in the target’s specific country
The AHTS vessel market is currently experiencing a significant transformation, particularly in regions where subsea projects are on the rise. The demand for high-end AHTS vessels has been driven by an increase in offshore activities, including oil and gas exploration, as well as renewable energy projects. In Norway, where DOF operates, the subsea sector is witnessing robust growth, fueled by both domestic and international investments in offshore infrastructure.
Despite the high costs associated with newbuilding activities, the market for AHTS vessels with a bollard pull exceeding 300 metric tonnes remains competitive. The lack of newbuilding activity in this segment has created a scarcity of available vessels, thereby increasing the value of existing high-capacity AHTS vessels. This trend is expected to continue as operators seek to secure reliable and capable vessels for upcoming projects.
Furthermore, the AHTS market has historically lagged behind other subsea vessel markets; however, recent indicators suggest a resurgence in demand. Companies are increasingly prioritizing the acquisition of high-end AHTS vessels to meet the growing requirements of complex offshore projects. This shift is indicative of a broader recovery in the offshore sector, as operators adapt to changing market dynamics and client needs.
As the industry evolves, the strategic positioning of companies like DOF, which focus on high-capacity and technologically advanced vessels, will be crucial. The a…
