A consortium consisting of Actis and Fortescue has been awarded exclusive rights to develop a large-scale green hydrogen and green ammonia project in Oman. The project has the potential to produce up to 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. This initiative was announced during a signing ceremony in Muscat, which was attended by HE Eng Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals and Chairman of Hydrom.
The consortium emerged as the winning bidder in the second round of a tender process conducted by Hydrogen Oman SPC (Hydrom), which was established by the Omani government to implement the country's green hydrogen strategy. The project is currently in the feasibility stage, with plans to build approximately 4.5GW of renewable energy resources—comprising both wind and solar power—to fuel electrolyzers for hydrogen production.
