Information on the target
Moeve has announced the incorporation of COFIDES and Hy24 into the first phase of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley. The project, led by Moeve with a majority stake of 51%, boasts a robust shareholder structure that combines industrial and financial expertise through the strategic partnership of COFIDES and Hy24, the world's largest manager of funds specialized in green hydrogen, holding a combined stake of 29%. COFIDES participates through the Co-Investment Fund (FOCO), designed to mobilize investments towards projects related to the green and digital transition and technological transformation.
The remaining 20% is held jointly by Enagás Renovable and Alter Enersun. Moeve has celebrated the commencement of construction for the first phase of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley, the largest hydrogen project in Europe. This event took place in Palos de la Frontera, Huelva, and was attended by high-ranking representatives from the Spanish Government, the European Commission, the Junta de Andalucía, and local municipalities, highlighting the strategic nature of this pioneering initiative aimed at creating a new market for renewable hydrogen and positioning Spain at the forefront of the sector.
Industry overview in the target’s specific country
The Hydrogen Fuel industry in Spain is rapidly evolving, driven by the country's commitment to renewable energy and decarbonization. Spain has positioned itself as a leader in the production of green hydrogen, leveraging its abundant renewable resources, particularly solar and wind energy. The government has set ambitious targets to produce 4 GW of green hydrogen by 2030, aligning with the European Union's broader goals for a sustainable energy transition.
Spain's geographical advantages, including extensive land availability and favorable climatic conditions, facilitate the generation of renewable energy at a lower cost compared to northern Europe. This has made the country an attractive hub for hydrogen production, with several large-scale projects underway, such as the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley. This initiative not only aims to produce hydrogen but also to create a comprehensive ecosystem that supports the entire hydrogen value chain, from production to storage and distribution.
The European Union has recognized the importance of hydrogen in achieving climate neutrality by 2050, and Spain is poised to play a critical role in this transition. The country is actively participating in various EU-funded projects aimed at developing hydrogen infrastructure and technology, which will further enhance its position in the global hydrogen market. The collaboration between public and private sectors, as seen in the partnership between Moeve, COFIDES, and Hy24, is essential for mobilizing the necessary investments and expertise to drive this industry forward.
Moreover, the hydrogen sector in Spain is expected to create significant employment opportunities, with estimates suggesting that thousands of jobs will be generated across the value chain. This alig…
