StormImpact, a cutting-edge weather analytics company, originated from research conducted at The Ohio State University. This innovative platform was developed to assist utility companies in effectively managing their operations during severe weather events. Founded through collaboration between professor Steven Quiring, senior researcher Brent McRoberts, and undergraduate student Scott Hull, StormImpact launched officially in 2022, following its licensing from the Ohio State Innovation Foundation.
Utilizing data-driven machine learning models, StormImpact predicts the effects of weather on electrical power systems, allowing utilities to anticipate incoming storms and assess potential damage. This foresight enables power companies to mobilize resources proactively, thus reducing the impact of outages on customers.
