Swedbank has acquired Sparbanken Öresund and facilitated the creation of Sparbanken Skåne, forming Sweden's largest savings bank to enhance regional banking services.
Information on the Target
Sparbanken Skåne is emerging as Sweden's largest savings bank, resulting from the merger of Färs & Frosta Sparbank, Sparbanken 1826, and the acquisition of certain business operations from Sparbanken Öresund in the municipalities of Eslöv, Kävlinge, Lund, and Staffanstorp. With this consolidation, Sparbanken Skåne will boast a significant business volume of approximately SEK 170 billion, catering to around 420,000 customers across 17 municipalities. The bank will be staffed by approximately 650 employees and operate through 44 branches.
Following the acquisition, Sparbanken Skåne will be structured with shared ownership among Sparbanksstiftelsen Färs & Frosta, Sparbanksstiftelsen 1826, and Sparbanksstiftelsen Öresund, each holding 26 percent, alongside Swedbank, which will retain a 22 percent stake. Notably, Sparbanksstiftelsen Gripen, a former co-owner of Sparbanken Öresund, has opted out of ownership in the new entity to focus on its social initiatives.
