SSE has made a final investment decision to construct a 100MW Battery Energy Storage System in County Tyrone, aiming to enhance Northern Ireland's renewable energy infrastructure.
Information on the Target
SSE Renewables has announced the final investment decision to construct a 100MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) named Derrymeen in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. The facility, strategically located adjacent to the Tamnamore 275/110kV substation near Dungannon, aims to provide substantial capacity along with two hours of storage, totaling 200MWh. This investment is a pivotal step in supporting Northern Ireland's transition toward a renewable energy-dominated electricity system.
Upon completion, the Derrymeen BESS will be integrated into the all-island Integrated Single Electricity Market (SEM), enabling it to aid in grid stabilization. The facility will store excess electricity during periods of high generation and subsequently release it when demand escalates, thereby enhancing grid reliability and security of supply.
