AILOS Robotics has raised €3.5 million in seed funding to develop advanced actuation technology for human-centric robots, aiming to become a leading player in the European robotics market.
Information on the Target
AILOS Robotics, based in Brussels, has successfully secured €3.5 million in seed funding to advance the industrialization of its innovative actuation technology designed for modern, human-centric robots. Utilizing a patented gearbox that merges quasi-direct-drive agility with superior torque density, AILOS seeks to create robots that are not only lighter and faster but also more energy-efficient and cost-effective. The company is a spin-off from the VUB BruBotics research group, with nearly a decade of focused development on the R2poweR gearbox architecture, which is applicable to various robotic applications including humanoids, collaborative robots (cobots), exoskeletons, and prosthetic devices.
Supported by initiatives like VLAIO and Innoviris, AILOS has transitioned from research to practice, already achieving a minimum viable prototype. Their technology offers significant advantages over existing gear systems by providing smooth backdrivability, high torque capability, and robust scalability for industrial applications. AILOS’s vision is directed toward establishing a competitive footprint within Europe’s robotics market, especially as demand for agile and safe robots grows.
