NextPower UK ESG has acquired Rutherglen, a 29MW standalone Battery Energy Storage System in Glasgow, enhancing its portfolio with vital energy storage capacity.
Information on the Target
NextPower UK ESG has successfully acquired 'Rutherglen', a standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project with a capacity of 29MW and a two-hour energy duration. This marks the 13th acquisition for NPUK and the third in November alone. The Rutherglen project is poised to commence commercial operations in 2026 and is strategically situated in Glasgow, benefitting from a robust grid connection and access to various transmission interfaces between Scotland and England.
The strategic location allows Rutherglen to leverage constraint management services from the National Energy System Operator, particularly during periods of high wind energy generation. Moreover, the project has the potential for future augmentation to enhance its storage duration, providing significant flexibility and value to the NPUK portfolio.
