MFF has mobilized $100 million in investments aimed at enhancing sustainability and biodiversity in forest management across several continents.
Information on the Target
The Mobilising Finance for Forests (MFF) program, initiated by FMO, has successfully evolved over its five-year trajectory from an innovative concept into a demonstrable framework for attracting private capital to Forestry and Sustainable Land Use (FSLU). MFF has showcased the efficacy of blended finance, strategically utilizing concessional capital to catalyze substantial private sector investments. So far, the program has allocated $100 million across nine distinct investments in regions including Latin America, Africa, and Asia, involving notable funds such as the &Green Fund, the Responsible Commodities Facility (RCF), EcoEnterprises IV, and the BTG Pactual Reforestation Strategy.
These investments are structured to yield not only commercial returns but also measurable environmental impacts, focusing on biodiversity preservation and climate outcomes. A significant development occurred in 2024, when the Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs joined as a funding partner, alongside the UK Government’s pledge for additional support during COP29 in Baku. These partnerships enhance the MFF's ability to expand its portfolio and attract more private funding, underlining strong confidence in its operating model.
