Adani Green Energy and Adani Power are set to supply a total of 6600 MW of solar and thermal power to Maharashtra's grid through long-term agreements with MSEDCL, marking significant advancements in renewable energy procurement.

Information on the Target

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), recognized as India's largest renewable energy company, is poised to make significant contributions to Maharashtra's energy landscape through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). Under the recently issued Letter of Intent (LOI), AGEL will supply 5 GW (5000 MW) of solar power, leveraging the initiatives underway at the world's largest renewable energy park located in Khavda, Kutch District, Gujarat. Additionally, Adani Power Limited (APL), India's foremost private thermal power producer, will enter into a long-term Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with MSEDCL for the provision of 1496 MW (net) of thermal power from a new 1600 MW Ultra-supercritical thermal power project.

Industry Overview in India

The state of Maharashtra has emerged as a leader in India's solar energy sector, playing a crucial role in the enhancement of the national renewable energy capacity. It has been instrumental in driving the transition toward a greener energy portfolio, which aligns with India's objectives to increase the share of renewable energy. AGEL's continuous efforts to integrate more solar energy into the state's energy mix were recently exhibited with the successful operation of a wind-solar hybrid cluster in Jaisalmer, which commenced supplying green energy to Mumbai city in March 2023. Consequently, as of June 2024, renewable energy comprises approximately 37% of the energy mix in the Mumbai distribution circle.

The recent competitive bidding administered by MSEDCL aimed at procuring combined thermal and solar power has resulted in the acquisition of 6600 MW capacity, divided into 5000 MW solar power and 1600 MW thermal power. This procurement process allowed APL to combine its thermal capacity bi
