Information on the Target
Leonardo S.p.A. has embarked on a significant strategic initiative by entering into a contract with the Italian IT, Telematics, and Advanced Technologies Directorate (TELEDIFE). This agreement entails the development and provision of four next-generation radars aimed at countering long-range ballistic threats, which can reach up to 3,000 km. This contract marks a crucial step in advancing the advanced integrated defense system, Michelangelo Dome, following its official presentation.
The collaboration builds on the successful qualification launch of the Italian missile system SAMP/T NG, which occurred earlier this month and was equipped with the cutting-edge Leonardo KRONOS Grand Mobile High Power radar. The new radars, consisting of Ground Based Radar (GBR) and Mobile Long Range Radar (MLRR), boast a fully digital technology based on Gallium Nitride (GaN) AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) antennas, ensuring high efficiency and extensive detection capabilities.
