TripleW has secured $16.5 million in Series B funding to scale its innovative production of lactic acid and PLA bioplastic from food waste.
Information on the Target
TripleW is an Israeli startup founded in 2016 by Amir Oranim and Tal Shapira, specializing in the production of lactic acid and polylactic acid (PLA) bioplastic derived entirely from food waste. The company employs 26 people at its research and development center in Israel and operates an industrial demonstration facility in Belgium. TripleW has previously raised $19 million, with significant support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Program and various local innovation authorities.
Utilizing a fermentation process involving microorganisms, TripleW's technology converts 100% food waste into lactic acid, which is subsequently purified and used to produce PLA bioplastic. This innovative approach offers a low-cost and versatile alternative to traditional fossil-based materials without the necessity for green premiums.
