ENGIE has acquired a 212 MW onshore wind farm in Bad Berleburg, Germany, doubling its wind capacity in the country and reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy.
Information on the Target
ENGIE has significantly expanded its renewable energy capacity in Germany through the strategic acquisition of a 'ready-to-build' onshore wind farm in Bad Berleburg, North Rhine-Westphalia. This new asset has a capacity of 212 MW and consists of 32 wind turbines that are expected to generate over 500 GWh of renewable electricity annually, which is sufficient to power approximately 142,000 households. The construction phase is currently underway, with a full operational launch anticipated in 2027.
The acquisition aligns with ENGIE’s broader strategy of enhancing its renewable energy portfolio and advancing energy transition efforts in Germany, a country in which ENGIE has been a key player since 1891. With a strong operational presence, the company employs around 5,900 people and has a diversified portfolio, including wind, hydroelectric projects, energy storage systems, and natural gas storage facilities.
