ENGIE has finalized financing for its BC-Wind offshore wind farm project in Poland, marking a significant step in expanding its renewable energy portfolio.
Target Information
ENGIE has recently secured financing for its first offshore wind farm in Poland, known as the BC-Wind project. This initiative, developed in partnership with EDP Renewables through their joint venture Ocean Winds, will feature an installed capacity of 390 MW. Positioned 23 kilometers from the Polish coastline, near the towns of Krokowa and Choczewo in Pomerania, the wind farm will consist of 26 turbines. Each turbine is rated at 14 MW but equipped with Power Boost technology, allowing them to reach a maximum output of 15 MW, thereby cumulatively producing enough energy to power nearly half a million Polish households once operational.
Industry Overview in Poland
The renewable energy sector in Poland is expanding significantly, driven by government commitments to meet EU climate goals and increase energy independence. The country has been investing heavily in renewable sources such as wind, solar, and biomass, striving to reduce its dependency on coal. As part of a broader strategy, the Polish government aims to increase the share of renewables in the energy mix to 32% by 2030. Offshore wind energy presents a particularly promising component of this strategy, leveraging Poland's advantageous geographical position along the Baltic Sea.
