The DeepTech & Climate Fonds (DTCF) has officially announced its investment in Genomines, a pioneering company based in Paris that is innovating the metal extraction industry through plant-based biotechnology. Genomines successfully raised an oversubscribed Series A round of funding, totaling $45 million, with leadership from Engine Ventures and Forbion BioEconomy. Additional participants included Wind and existing investors such as Lower Carbon Capital, among others.
Target Company Information
Genomines utilizes a proprietary phytoextraction platform that employs genetically modified “hyperaccumulator” plants to absorb and concentrate metals like nickel from soil. The harvested biomass is processed into high-purity metal intermediates, which are essential for battery applications. Field trials are currently taking place in South Africa and other selected locations, in partnership with stakeholders across the automotive and battery sectors.
