BaltCap Infrastructure Fund (BInF) is facilitating a loan of EUR 6 million through its subsidiary, Forest Investment, to support the construction of a biomass combined heat and power plant in Alytus. The initiative is led by the local firm Biovatas, which has been operational for seven years and currently manages a 15 MW biofuel power plant that supplies clean heating to the centralized heating system in Alytus city. The new facility is expected to commence operations in 2023.

The forthcoming power plant will feature a 2.5 MW electric turbine and a 12 MW heat boiler, enhanced with flue gas condensing economizers. Additionally, the project includes the establishment of a biomass warehouse and storage area, strategically located on Pramonės Street in the Dzūkija region's capital.
