Alstom has secured a €160 million contract to manufacture an additional 100 X’trapolis carriages for Iarnród Éireann, enhancing the Greater Dublin Area's rail services under the DART+ Programme.
Target Information
Alstom has announced a significant contract with Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail) to manufacture an additional 100 new X’trapolis carriages. This order, valued at €160 million, is a part of a more extensive investment of €173.9 million aimed at modernizing the rail infrastructure in the Greater Dublin Area. These new energy-efficient five-carriage electric multiple units (EMU) will entirely replace the longstanding DART 8100 Class fleet, which has been operational since the inception of the Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) network in 1984.
The introduction of these carriages will increase the total number of DART+ cars being manufactured by Alstom to 285. This advancement in public transport represents the largest fleet order in Irish history, marking a significant step forward in enhancing connectivity and capacity for the region’s commuters.
