Airbus has committed to using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) across its operations, aiming for 100% SAF utilization in aircraft deliveries by 2025.
Target Information
Airbus, a leading aerospace manufacturer, is committed to enhancing sustainability in its operations by implementing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) across its commercial aircraft assembly sites, including Toulouse, Hamburg, Mobile, Tianjin, and Mirabel. By the end of 2025, the company aims to ensure that all aircraft deliveries to its customers occur with SAF on board, at no additional cost. In 2024, Airbus successfully utilized a SAF blend for 75% of its 766 aircraft deliveries, with plans to further increase this percentage as operations at the Mirabel assembly site commence with SAF.
SAF plays a crucial role in the aviation sector's efforts to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimates that SAF will account for approximately 65% of the necessary emissions reductions in this timeframe. Airbus has steadily increased its utilization of SAF to 16% across various operations, including business travel and aircraft part transportation.
