EDF Renouvelables and KOWEPO have secured financing for the 500 MW Manah 1 solar project in Oman, aiming to enhance the region's renewable energy capacity and contribute to carbon neutrality goals.
Target Information
The Manah 1 solar project is a groundbreaking initiative developed by EDF Renouvelables in partnership with Korea Western Power Corporation (KOWEPO). Located in the Sultanate of Oman, this solar facility aims to generate 500 megawatts (MW) of clean energy. The consortium was awarded the project following a competitive bidding process in September 2022 and subsequently signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) on March 23, 2023, with the Oman Power and Water Company. Scheduled to become operational in the first quarter of 2025, this project represents a significant step towards the region's goals for sustainable energy consumption.
Manah 1 is the inaugural project for both EDF Renouvelables and KOWEPO in Oman, aligning with the national commitment to achieving 35-39% of renewable energy in the energy mix by 2040. This solar installation will cater to approximately 50,000 households, resulting in a reduction of around 700,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, showcasing its pivotal role in advancing Oman’s carbon neutrality objectives.
